Case study: TIM Group, Graduate Business Analyst

Name: Tom
Role: Graduate Business Analyst
Location: London

“If you’re the kind of person who likes to create your own opportunities, this company is ideal.”

Why did you choose TIM Group?

I wanted to work in a business role but within the technology industry.  I also found the prospect of working in a fairly new but well-established and growing software development company highly appealing. I also felt that a smaller company would allow me to take on more responsibility at an earlier stage than a larger company would.

What is your current role?

I joined as a business analyst but my role is very broad.  I have client management responsibilities, which involve training and supporting users of our applications, helping with new sales rollouts and developing existing accounts. I’ve also been getting involved in marketing activities and broader strategic tasks that require a holistic view of the company and its direction. I manage or have helped set up a number of internal processes relating to how we mange our client information, how we train new hires and how we support our users.

What do you most like about your job?

I’ve been interested in technology and software for as long as I can remember.  It’s great to see a development company from the inside and I’ve also learned a great deal about the financial services industry. And the specific markets our company operates are still developing, which adds an extra dimension to the learning. If you’re the kind of person who likes to create your own opportunities, this company is ideal. If you want it, you have the freedom to define your own role. And as the company is still fairly small, it’s possible for an individual to make a noticeable contribution.

What would you like to do in the future?

In the future I’d like to manage part of an existing or even a new software product and have a greater role in helping to grow the company. But as we’re growing so fast, new opportunities may present themselves that I haven’t even thought of yet!
