Case study: TIM Group, Graduate Developer
Name: Steven
Role: Graduate Developer
Location: London
“I wanted to work for a company where I felt I could really make an impact.”
Why did you choose TIM group?
TIM Group is not so big that you can get lost but at the same time it really feels like it’s going places. I also wanted to hit the ground running, which is expected of you here. I felt productive from day one and within days of joining, I was already helping to improve applications.
What is your current role?
I’m a developer on the TIM Ideas platform. My role is extremely varied and I work on a range of tasks, including bug fixes, creating new features and improving the quality of our applications.
What do you like most about your job?
One of the things that has impressed me most is the way graduates are treated exactly the same way as experienced staff. When the team gets new assignments, everyone has the chance to choose what they would like to work on. There’s a big emphasis on training and if you lack experience in a particular area, you’re given extra time so that you can get up to speed. I like the fact that my colleagues let me discover things for myself but provide support when I need it.
What would you like to do in the future?
Our managers make sure they know what our career aspirations are and help us achieve them as quickly as possible. In the future I’d like to manage a team of developers or move on to managing a project – but at TIM Group it’s possible to adjust your career path without changing company.
