Top Performer Awards 2019 Announced

20th March 2019

We are delighted to announce the results of our 8th annual Top Performer Awards. Based on performance during 2018, these results highlight the brokers and salespeople who picked the best performing ideas in 2018.

2018 saw sell-side firms share over a quarter of a million ideas with their buy-side clients (a record high), and those ideas were worth a remarkable 44 bps on average over the entire year. The TIM network has continued to grow from 310 firms in 2017 to 330 firms in 2018.

The awards are a unique global ranking, recognising and quantifying top performing firms and individuals – those whose trade ideas have consistently outperformed relevant regional indexes over the last year. Rankings are based on a number of factors, with an emphasis on consistency – looking at overall performance against total number of ideas – rather than one or two exceptional ideas.

This year’s highlights include:

  • UBS topped the bulge broker rankings in Europe, Asia ex and Australia and New Zealand for the fourth year in a row, with Clinton Wong topping the salesperson charts in Australia and New Zealand with an average return of 9.34%.
  • Flora Hung at JP Morgan topped the Asia ex bulge bracket salespeople category with 8.86% outperformance.
  • Two salespeople for Jefferies in North America ranked top with outstanding average returns: John Sullivan with 16.59% and Will Sevush with 14.75%.
  • Sean Heath of Berenberg Bank in Europe, was top of the mid-tier salespeople, beating the market by 9.25%.

We’d like to congratulate the entire TIM community on a good performance in a difficult year for stock picking.
